Available at the camp sites are picnic tables, a fire ring, vault toilets, garbage cans, and a well for drinking water. Pets are allowed in campsite and there is even a playground for the kids. The camp sites are cleared areas surrounded by trees, and have a primitive feel to keep the great outdoors experience genuine. One of the great advantages in choosing to camp on Big Mantrap Lake is the opportunity to watch the gorgeous sunset and spend time outdoors with friends and family.
Along with the camp sites, there are also many nearby attractions conveniently located in Big Mantrap area. The Paul Bunyan State Trail is within 5 miles of the lake, and there is a Ranch that offers horseback rides on the forest's trails. About half an hour away, is Itasca State Park with beautiful scenery, trails, and the headwaters of the Mississippi River.
The area around Big Mantrap Lake is scattered with golf courses and local offerings such as: restaurants, shopping malls, and movie theaters. For those who love to bike long distances, the Heartland Trail is a 27-mile bike trail from Park Rapids to Walker.
